A short-lived nuclear winter ensues within the next decades, though in America it is primarily concentrated within the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeastern_United_States Northeastern], [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Coast_of_the_United_States Eastern Coast] and [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Coast_of_the_United_States Western Coast] regions of the United States, along with various other strategic cities and military points.

The mainland United States was severely fractured after the nuclear strikes and during the nuclear winter across the nation, communication entirely crippled between regions and states. During this time, many regional and local governments claim themselves as the rightful United States government or provisional government, though the legitimate [https://smokecity.skywiki.org/wiki/United_States_of_America_(Nuclear_Winter_Project) United States of America] still exists, just with extensively lost territory.
