The United States of America (USA), also known as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a country located in North America. Encompassing large and disjointed parts of it's former territory, it is a federal republic which seeks to claim its former contiguous territory and preserve the federal government.

Nuclear Winter Period

Within the initial weeks of the nuclear winter, the American government aimed to secure communications with communities, disconncted local, regional and federal governments and surrounding nations. Not a single state escaped nuclear exchange, but the Northeastern, Eastern Coast and Western Coast regions of the United States were hit the hardest out of any other region. With wind taking dust across the Applachia, the Eastern Coast and Northeast had little viable infanstructure, with little planning, evacuation efforts were put into place, with dozens of refugee centers and settlements established further inland, with majority of Northeast being abandoned indefintely. The largest diaspora in the world effectively came into existence within only a few weeks.

While evacuation efforts and refugee centers and general federal reorganization suceeded relatively well within the Eastern Coast and Northeast, every other region was devastated, the lack of authority and spread of warlordism spread rapidly, various groups varying in ideology, tradition, culture and interests sprouted up. Many remnants of local, regional and federal governments found themselves taking part within this warlordism, many saw this as the only way to re-establish some sort of order.

By the end of the Nuclear Winter Period, the American government secured little communication with the larger United States, leading to even a further rise into these independent governments, groups and cliques and general warlordism. Most of the Central United States and Southeastern United States had some of their key cities and important infantstructure were reunited, resettled and reorganized into new districts within the rest of the United States. At this point, most provisional governments and independent groups reorganized into the United States have great autonomy, almost operating independently other than having an active military presence alongside aid from the federal government.
